He boasts of big-time patrons like Romi Dev, Shobhaa De and Manya Patil Seth. Perhaps because if there is any design house that has been able to do justice to the concept of marrying art and fashion, then it’s Satya Paul. Last year the label did scarves inspired by painter Raza. Come October and the design house will be putting together a show which will display saris inspired by four grandmasters of art—Kandinsky, Rothko, Matisse and Morris Louis. The saris will be in limited edition and, as can be expected, masters won’t really come cheap.

What attracted Puneet Nanda, the designer of the label, to the masters was their abstract art. Whether the saris will manage to impress the customers remains to be seen. But there’s more art to look for from the design house. Later in the year, Satya Paul will be bringing in their much talked about Raja Ravi Varma collection to Delhi, after showing it at Mumbai and Calcutta. The collection has saris inspired by the Ravi Varma paintings in possession of the Gaikwads, the royal family of Baroda.
