Which phone do you have?
The iPhone 5S.
How many have you changed so far?
I’m a veteran of smartphones, my first phone was a Nokia Communicator. Since then, I have changed about 12 phones.
What do you use it for mainly?
Communication is just one part. Literally everything happens on the phone for me— patient reports, e-mail, Whatsapp chat, text messaging, I am always just a call away for my patients.
Who do you call the most?
My wife-cum-business partner Pallavi and my assistant.
How many calls do you make in a day?
Has it helped your business?
It has changed the way we do business. We attend to patients not only from India, but abroad. This kind of connectivity is unthinkable with landlines!
When has it served you best?
My father had a cardiac arrest two years ago. Even though I was able to resuscitate him, connecting with my doctor friends at that time was crucial for me.
How much time do you spend on the phone?
About 2-3 hours a day.
When has it let you down?
Not enough battery backup!
Do you think it controls you?
Sort of, I feel like something is lacking if I don’t have my phone on me. It’s my connection to the whole world.
What’s your worst lie on the phone?
To my wife—“I am on my way home, just about to reach!”
Which mobile app do you use the most?
Epocrates and Battery doctor.
How much will you spend on a new phone?
I think my budget would be Rs 50,000.
Can you live without the phone for a day?
No. Even when abroad, am on international roaming. My patients depend on me and are connected with me through the phone.
