Pulkit is a school dropout—and not ashamed of saying it. A computer whiz, app developer and entrepreneur, the Lucknow boy took over his father’s sports goods store when he passed away earlier this year. Pulkit was only 16 when he made his first software program, a website backup solution. Soon came coffee.io, a one-stop shop for developers looking for code management. Next, he wants to move to Bangalore, network with venture capitalists and become a part of the startup ecosystem in the buzzing city.

What I want to be

A successful web entrepreneur. I’m already on to my next big project.

What inspires me

I love working with computers and the web because I’m fascinated with how they connect the world.

My idea of India

There is a lot of talent here but it isn’t utilised well. This is because of static government policies and the general attitude that kids should only pursue a career like engineering and get into IIT. Young people should get to choose what they want to do.

What religion means to me

I used to pray but not anymore. I am angry with God. He took away my father so early.

Who I will vote for

Aam Aadmi Party. They’re thinking about changing the way India is run.

What makes me angry

When something is not done the way I want it.

What money means to me

I spend money on food and good clothes. But it can’t bring happiness.

What makes me proud

My father. He always let me choose the path I wanted to take. He was the first investor in my web venture.

Why I don’t want to study further

College is a waste of time and money because they don’t teach you anything useful. I would rather work, and be employed by someone who doesn’t care about a college degree, but would hire me for my talent.

Am I happy where I am?

I’m happy but the startup network in Lucknow is weak, so I would like to move to Bangalore next year.
