From supermodel to actress—are you shifting base to Bollywood?

Yes. There are many good offers. I want to do more films. I’m cutting down on modelling.

Tell us about your role in the film.

I play Janet Sequeira, a not-so-successful model. She’s outspoken but has a heart of gold.

Are you better on the ramp or screen?

Ramp-walking comes naturally to me. Acting is very different. I have evolved as a person.

How did you become a part of this film?

I met him while shooting for a jewellery brand and he offered me the role. Of course, I had doubts about my acting skills.

Like other Madhur Bhandarkar’s films, is Fashion a reflection of reality?

Fashion is close to reality. It has a fictional storyline but no one has been targeted or degraded. No catfights or gossip. It deals with the emotional side of being in the fashion industry.

How will the fashion world react to the film?

I’m sure everyone will take it positively.

Do you feel your screen presence will be eclipsed by Priyanka and Kangana?

All the roles have been sketched very well. Each character stands out. I believe if you’re good, your presence will always be felt.

The film has a provocative tagline: ‘In the Fashion world, you have to give up much more than just your morals.’

The film focuses on how you have to suppress your feelings when you perform. It’s about the extra professionalism that the field demands. I feel one has to make one’s own morals.

From Gladrags winner to being a model and now an actor—how has the journey been?

Definitely not a smooth one. I hail from a middle class, Marathi medium background. Moving to Mumbai was a huge culture shock.

What’s next for Mugdha Godse?

Films and more films!
