Birth Of An Exam

Shanti Devi laboured through her studies and when the time came to write her Class 10 exam, the labour pain kicked on. The 20-something woman was ambulanced out of the exam centre in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district to a hospital. And a boney boy was born towards evening. She named him Imtihaan—a test both mother and child passed. Now, it is often a custom—rather a trend—for parents to name their kids after an event they don’t want to forget in a hurry. Take the pandemic for instance. A Chhattisgarh couple named their twins—Corona for the girl and Covid the boy—after their birth last March, while a boy born in Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh on a Shramik Special train from Mumbai was named Lockdown. The best is Sanitiser Singh of Saharanpur, UP—a reminder that whenever people talk of coronavirus, they will remember it was Sanitiser that saved them.
