Memories Of Fall
The Congress decision to give tickets in Delhi to Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar, principal accused in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and their lawyer R.K. Anand, has found an echo in the Punjab poll campaign. Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal and Naresh Gujral, son of former PM I.K. Gujral and an Akali-bjp candidate, are gleefully pointing fingers at the Congress’ ‘anti-Sikh’ attitude. This doesn’t augur well for chief minister Amarinder Singh, who is wooing Sikhs by associating himself with panthic functions. The Congress was hoping to win some hardcore traditional Akali votes. But Tytler, Kumar and Anand’s nominations are bound to reopen old wounds. Something the beleaguered captain could have done without.
