On May 19, the state Congress Legislature Party unanimously resolved to "join the Tamil Nadu cabinet in the interest of stability...and to fulfil the expectations of the people". AICC observer in charge of TN, Veerappa Moily, said they "expected the CM to discuss the matter with Soniaji when he visits Delhi". But Karunanidhi resolutely withstood any such efforts. He later talked of the Congress president being unwilling to alter the pre-poll understanding—of being part of the coalition but not joining government. Clearly, MK has more influence on Sonia than the state unit.
