It is Orient and silk all the way in designer Ravi Bajaj’s fall/winter collection, 2003. He held a special show of the collection at his Defence Colony store last week. Lycra churidars, shirts with big collars and boot-leg cuts dominated the men’s collection which bordered on feminine elegance. The women’s wear was inspired by oriental motifs in rich colours. "Orient is big this season and will continue to remain so for some more time,’’ says Bajaj. The designer’s trousseau pieces stood out for their lightness. "One of the bridal saris weighs only 500 grams, a pleasant change from 20-kilo lehengas,’’ says Bajaj. The piece de resistance was a saree-cum-black dress. The pre-pleated sari could be wrapped around and buttoned together. And in case you get into party mood, just unwrap it and voila! there’s a neat Coco Chanelesque black dress beneath. Now that’s what we call an instant sari!
