What are the prospects of Mahakootami, your alliance with the TRS and Left parties?

Fantastic. I have been extensively touring the state. The enthusiasm of the people in favour of the Mahakootami candidates is writ on their faces. People are thronging to our roadshows and public meetings on their own. On the other hand, they are keeping away from the campaigns of chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. What does this mean? People are willing to stand up and be counted against the chief minister and the Congress. It is Mahakootami all the way.

Will the alliance remain even after the polls?

Of course. No one should have any doubt on this count.

What are the TDP’s prospects in the coastal districts?

Very, very bright. The organisational strength of our party and its dedicated cadres stands us in good stead. Though some leaders deserted our party, the cadre has not moved with them. Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) is wreaking havoc on the Congress in coastal Andhra Pradesh, giving them sleepless nights. This also goes to our advantage.

Some surveys suggested that the Congress was leading.

In our country, election surveys have yet to attain perfection and the required degree of accuracy. No one is to be blamed for this. It is because our democracy is much more complex and complicated than in countries like the US and the UK. Our system operates in a very diverse and multi-factor environment. So to capture the ground-level realities becomes that much more difficult and several surveys have been proved wrong in the recent past.

The PRP and Congress call your alliance opportunistic.

This is nothing but bizarre. PRP leaders, including its chief Chiranjeevi, moved heaven and earth to have the same Left parties and TRS on their side. How could they now say that our Mahakootami is opportunistic!

How many seats are you expecting?

I have made it a point not to speak in terms of specific number of seats. I can assure you that the Mahakootami will deliver to the Congress one of its worst defeats.
