How soon should the ties be restored?
Soon. Probably in the coming season.

But shouldn't sports be kept away from politics?
It's very difficult to do that. Howsoever much you deny it, you cannot separate politics from sports.

After Kargil, you had said the two teams shouldn't play together for a while.
Yes, because I believe that in times of animosity and ill-will, cricket ends up exaggerating it.

What impact did this have on the players?
The ultimate test of our players is to perform against India—matches between us are high pressure games and it tests the players' temperament. So many of our boys lost out on that.

Do you think Wasim Akram had it in him to slog for some more time?
Only if he was made the captain. He had nothing else to prove.

But what was his role in the team eleven?
Of grooming the boys for the future.

You too retired much the same way?
It was different. I wasn't dropped and I wasn't at the mercy of the selectors.
