Her Heart Beats Again
Within days of the AIADMK’s rout in the Lok Sabha polls, Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalitha has scrapped the anti-conversion Bill, which had the Opposition and the minorities up in arms, restored free power supply to farmers and made subsidised rice accessible to all ration card-holders. Disciplinary action against state government employees, who struck work last year, too has been withdrawn. Ditto for cases against Congress and DMK leaders for ‘instigating’ the strike. Over a dozen cases filed against the media, including breach of privilege against The Hindu group, have also been dropped. What with the assembly polls due in two years time, the AIADMK seems desperate to recover lost ground.
