Is this your best birthday ever?
This year is certainly going to be my most prolific. I've already published two books and will come out with three more.

Your next book is also with Sarayu Srivatsa. Why two authors for one book?
For this kind of a book (it's on Afghanistan) where you have to interview a lot of people, having two voices works better.

You settled in India against your own inclinations. Any regrets?
No, not in the end. I regretted it in the beginning.

Do you wish you lived elsewhere?
I was fascinated by the Congo, but wouldn't like to live there.

How come you never learnt any other Indian language?
When I was a child, all the conversation at home was in English; then I lived abroad till I was 25. By then, it was a bit late to start learning a language.

Doesn't it hamper you as a writer?
Not really. My father didn't speak any other language other than English, but he was the editor of Times of India and the Indian Express.
