The New Delhi-based Bikanerwala Foods Private Ltd is setting up units in Canada and Dubai to manufacture desi sweets and namkeens. The Rs 100-crore firm will also set up a chain of retail outlets in Canada and the US. Their first sweetmeat outlet will be located in the northeastern US city of New Jersey. While the company naturally hopes to create clientele among the Indian diaspora in North America, it’s also hoping to attract more American tastebuds to Indian sweets. Bikanerwala is perhaps the first Indian halwai to open a manufacturing unit abroad, especially in North America. The Canada unit will be set up at a cost of Rs 2.2 crore and the company hopes to source raw materials for its products locally.
