Funds For UP Polls

The tremors of the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections are being felt as far as Karnataka. The Karnataka government’s plan for a Rs 1,800 crore steel flyover to ease congestion from the heart of the city towards the airport has run into opposition. The BJP is accusing the Congress of using the flyover  project as a ploy to raise funds for the UP elections. The insinuation of potential corruption is intrinsic in the BJP’s accusation. The BJP’s charge is that Karnataka is the only big state where the Congress is in power and that it will milk it to garner election funds.

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bhopal recently to inaugurate a war memorial, all the roads on the PM’s route were relaid, the government buildings were given a fresh coat of paint and potted plants were placed to lend a dash of colour. However, morning walkers the next day discovered something unusual. The packs of ferocious street dogs that regularly chased them during their morning walks were missing. This experience was shared by the morning walkers, pedestrians and two-wheeler riders all over the city. There are no answers to the mystery yet and the municipal authorities are mum about where all the strays have suddenly vanished.

Ticket Trouble

A Delhi-based travel agency has threatened to take legal action against an actor-turned-politician and her brother for non-payment of Rs 5.6 lakh for services provided to them. In a letter dated July 29, the accounts manager of the agency says that this is the last reminder to them. They are to pay the due amount—pending since the past three years—at the earliest to avoid legal action. The principal amount was Rs 3.2 lakh but an additional Rs 2.3 lakh is payable as interest at the rate of  two per cent per month.
