Baan Thai at Delhi’s Oberoi hotel is the place to be this summer. Not only to eat those Thai delicacies but also to learn to make them right in your own kitchen. All through May and June, Chef Prakob Samranruen himself is teaching the art to the initiates. "It’s a pleasure to cook for Indians as they have great craving for food," he said at one such session last week. The best part of Thai cooking, says he, is that it is not time-consuming. His list of recipes include Yam Mamuang (raw mango salad), Tom Yam Po Taek (spicy seafood soup), Kaeng Kiew Waan Kai (chicken green curry), but the star of the menu is Khanom Thong Plu or the ‘shower of gold’. The awesome dessert made of wheat flour and sugar syrup was prepared by none other than the wife of the Thailand ambassador, Saijai Sotipalalit. The lady loves to cook, and the dessert is one of her specialties. "I’m happy to see Indians have great zest for Thai food," says she. Sure we do.
