There are days when it feels like the strangest job to have. I have, for six months now, worked as a film and video classifier with the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). Most people, even in the British media, continue to refer to us as "The Censors", even though we classify far more often than we censor material. But, yes, the job does come with the sometimes unsettling knowledge that we are a privileged few (15, to be precise), privy to material that will be cut before it is released to the British public.

Although South Asian films have for long had their place in British life, a newly savvy and energetic international distribution system seems to have opened the floodgates. We get, at the BBFC, an average of two Hindi and two or three Tamil and Telugu films a week. If you take into account the fact that the total number of cinema releases in Britain are hardly ever more than 10 a week, the sums seemingly indicate that a substantial percentage of the classification work is geared towards the cinema-loving South Asian population.
