You’re participating in the New York Fashion Week again?
Yes. My second ramp show there.

Which collection are you showing?
It will be my Spring-Summer ’07 line inspired by the Viennese art movement.

And it has...
Lots of white, unusual drapes, controlled volume; the look is toned-down, faded.

Are you an avid art collector?
I’m fond of art. F.N. Souza is among my favourite painters. I also like other new and upcoming artists.

Last time you gave a sexy yoga kit to the NY press. What’s in the goody bag this time?
A pretty jewellery box covered with a dull gold fabric. It has been designed by Sunil Sethi who is a buyer for Selfridges and Marks & Spencer.

Oh, so you’re doling out jewellery this time?
No. It will have a small idol of goddess Laxmi and a note on her. The idea is to represent Indian craft and way of life. There’ll also be a shawl and some more knick-knacks.

What about your collection for the WIFW?
I’ve done a line exclusively for Nokia, the associate sponsor of the event. They’re launching a high-end product and I’ve designed clothes fusing their and my design sensibility.

Last season you showed at Lakme Fashion Week. Why not this time?
The offer made to me by the associate sponsors for WIFW was very good.

What else is there on your plate?
Lots. After New York I’m off for London Fashion Week where I have a stall and then to Paris for another fashion event.

Is the two-fashion-weeks-a-year format suiting you?
That’s how it’s done globally. We should keep up with the pace rather than crib about it.
