Whole Lotta Love vs Beethoven 5th Symphony
Finally, a bow has been pulled on the iconic Jimmy Page. A cello bow, that is. 2Cellos, the Croatian cellist duo known for their rendition of popular rock numbers, has come up with a new single in which Beethoven’s 5th Symphony in C Minor meets Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love. As you might imagine, it’s novel and whacky, and so is the video. The duo, needless to say, has a great talent for blending the classical with the popular effortlessly and at catching their audience off-guard when they do make that switch. Like their earlier take on Iron Maiden’s The Trooper (2014). Rings a bell? It is in a similar fashion that the heart-stopping opening notes of the symphony skilfully slips into the lively Led Zepp riff and then there’s no stopping them. Immense virtuosity is on display, especially as things come to a head. It was their version of Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal in 2011 that shot cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser to fame and, in the years since, the duo have wowed audiences with their instrumental covers of various bands. Whole Lotta Love vs Beethoven just continues that flair, shredded bows and all. That’s probably the question most people still have: how many bows do they run through? Surely, Jimmy Page would know.
