What's different about Dil Chahta Hai?
Different is a much-abused word but this film is about friendship and love, and how the two affect each other.
Is that why you took up the film?
No. Because the script was fresh and original, which is something of a rarity these days.
This one comes after two long years, were you waiting for something?
I wasn't getting the kind of roles I was looking for. So I just refused and refused and refused films.
And what is your kind of role?
I need to be excited about what I am doing and there was nothing that excited me enough.
So what did you do in these two years?
Basically, nothing. Worked on other aspects of my personality.
Was it difficult playing 'hero' to an older woman, especially when she happened to be Dimple, whose been your father's co-star?
Initially, there was some tension because I didn't want to screw up things but Dimple is such an informal person. We got along very well.
Does she play Mrs Robinson to your Dustin Hoffman a la The Graduate?
Our relationship in the film is more platonic, not meant to excite and shock.
Why do we see such intense publicity before film releases these days?
Like toothpaste brands, there is much more choice in films today therefore the need to advertise.
But unlike toothpastes, films are supposed to entertain and perhaps tickle the imagination.
This one will not disappoint. I have very high expectations from this film.
Does that include box office collections?
I think so but then one never knows...
