A Rap From The Family Patriarch

The Sangh is unhappy with the BJP’s growth obsession at environmental cost

The message must reflect in the method. That’s the directive RSS seems to have given the Modi government. No wonder, after a long-standing stalemate over the Land Acquisition Bill, the government last week indicated it was willing to include a fresh section in it to allow state governments the provision of a consent clause and social impact assessment. The change of heart, however, did not happen overnight. Highly-placed sources in the RSS told Outlook, “A government insisting that it is pro-poor and pro-farmer must also look it. That’s exactly what was conveyed.”

For over three months now, RSS bosses in Nagpur have been deliberating on environment ministry decisions. Repeatedly, leaders from RSS-affiliated organisations have told the Sangh leadership that MoEF policies were ending up denting the nda’s image and reputation irreparably. Members of organisations like the Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram (VKA) and the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) had driven home the point that a hard approach from the government would make it difficult for them to support its policies. And their affiliates adding heft to the Opposition is not acceptable to RSS.
