Metformin is a commonly used prescription medication to treat type two diabetes. It comes under the classification of drugs called Biguanides. People who have diabetes suffer from increased blood glucose levels that go above the normal range; where medications like Metformin does not cure diseases like diabetes, it helps to maintain a safe level of blood glucose.
