Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a commonly occurring vaginal infection. It occurs when some of the normal bacteria living in the vagina overgrow, causing a bacterial imbalance. Symptoms include a fishy-smelling discharge. BV clears up without treatment in some women, and in others, antibiotics are required to treat the infection. Symptoms include itching, burning, and discomfort when urinating.
