Kashmiri Journalist Attacked In Pune, Withdraws Police Complaint

The local police, who earlier dubbed it as an incident of road rage, registered a case against the two suspected assailants on Friday evening and arrested one of them.

A journalist hailing from Kashmir was on Friday evening assaulted by two persons on a bike in Pune.

In the second such incident in three days, Jibraan Nazir, a Copy Editor working with a national English daily in Pune, was roughed up by two persons.

The local police, who earlier dubbed it as an incident of road rage, registered a case against the two suspected assailants on Friday evening and arrested one of them.

The journalist was allegedly thrashed by the two men on Thursday night during a squabble at a traffic signal.

Jibran said the assailants told him that they would ‘send him back to Kashmir’.

Jibraan said he does not think the attack on him was part of an organised attack on Kashmiris, and he was withdrawing his complaint. But he noted that "mob affliction" (of harassment of Kashmiris in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack) was being seen in Pune as well.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, two youths, who were speeding on their bike, got in the way of Jibraan's vehicle which led to the clash between the two parties.

Jibraan refused to register a complaint against the two riders with the police.
