Haryana Govt Slashes Covid-19 Treatment Rates At Private Hospitals

An order of the state Health and Family Welfare department mandates the maximum rate for treatment to be between Rs 15,000 and Rs 18,000 per day.

The Haryana government has rationalised the rates for treatment of Covid-19 at private hospitals, slashing them by nearly 60 per cent in the NCR towns of Faridabad and Gurugram. The new rules regarding rates come into effect on Friday.

According to an order of the state Health and Family Welfare department, the maximum rates for Covid-19 treatment will have to be between Rs 15,000 and Rs 18,000 per day.

Prior to this, Covid-19 treatment in Faridabad and Gurugram's top hospitals ranged from Rs 23,000 for an isolation bed up to Rs 80,000 for ICU beds per day.

The hospitals not accredited by National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) will now be allowed to charge only Rs 8,000 for isolation beds, including supportive care and oxygen, while an ICU bed without ventilator will cost Rs 13,000 and with ventilator (invasive/non-invasive) Rs 15,000.

In case of NABH-accredited hospitals, isolation beds will be available for Rs 10,000, ICU without ventilation for Rs 15,000 and ICU with ventilator for Rs 18,000.

Moreover, the packages will cover the entire cost except for experimental therapies. The rates will also include cost incurred by underlying co-morbid conditions, including supportive care and medicines.

“As many Covid-19 patients have diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, the support and medical care of the same will be part of the package,” reads the order. The rates, however, will not cover C-section deliveries of pregnant patients.

The new rates have been finalised after taking recommendations of the Niti Aayog Committee and initiatives of the governments of Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Telangana.

“The rates will be applicable from Friday and all hospitals are bound to abide by them. We will ensure strict implementation,” said Gurugram DC Amit Khatri.

Faridabad DC Yashpal Yadav has also asked private hospitals to abide by the new rules or face consequences.
