Firecracker production is in full swing in India ahead of the Hindu festival of Diwali. The festival marks the return of King of Ayodhya Lord Rama after 14 years of exile and the killing of demon King of Lanka Ravana in the Hindu epic Ramayana. Diwali follows the festival of Dussehra, which marks the killing of Ravana, who had abducted Rama's wife Lady Sita. Bursting firecrackers is among the main features of the Diwali festival, though lamps were used traditionally. Firecrackers on Diwali have been under scrutiny in recent years over pollution concerns.
