82 Palestinians were killed in Gaza after fresh Israeli aerial strikes, Hospitals and the Gaza Health Ministry said on Thursday. The reports said 38 of these people were killed while trying to get desperately needed food and supplies.

According to the reports, 33 people were killed while waiting for aid trucks at various locations. Another five were killed near sites run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a new U.S.-backed group involved in aid distribution, Al Jazeera reported. The Israeli military did not have an immediate comment on the attacks.

Deadly airstrikes also hit other parts of the Gaza Strip. In the Muwasi zone, where many displaced families are living in tents, 15 people were killed. A separate strike on a school in Gaza City being used as a shelter also resulted in deaths.

These events come as Israel and Hamas are reportedly moving closer to a possible ceasefire agreement to pause the fighting.

According to Al Jazeera, the Gaza Health Ministry stated that the total number of Palestinians killed in the war has now passed 57,000. The ministry notes that while it does not separate fighters from civilians, more than half of the dead are women and children.

The Israeli military says it targets Hamas militants and blames the group for civilian deaths because it operates in populated areas.

Attacks on hungry Palestinians near aid centers have killed hundreds of people since distributions began in late May, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office, Al Jazeera reported. The Director of the office, Ismail al-Thawabta, said a total of 409 aid seekers have now been killed.

The United Nations has criticized the new aid distribution system for its “failure” to ensure the safe delivery of supplies. Aid agencies have warned that the entire population is facing the threat of famine

The Israeli military blames Hamas for the civilian casualties because it operates from populated areas. The military said it targeted Hamas militants and rocket launchers in northern Gaza that launched rockets towards Israel on Wednes

On Tuesday,  US President Donald Trump announced that Israel had agreed to a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza and urged Hamas to accept the deal. However, Hamas's response, which reiterated its demand for a complete end to the war, has cast doubt on the possibility of this latest offer leading to a pause in fighting.

This ongoing conflict and its devastating impact are further highlighted by a recent United Nations report, released on June 16, 2025. Titled "From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide," the report alleges that several companies are supporting Israel's activities in Palestine, including Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.

The report suggests that these businesses contribute to severe human rights issues, including actions that may relate to genocide under international law, thus underscoring the deep-seated issues at play in the region that complicate any ceasefire efforts.
