Is the show an extension of your autobiographical play?

Yes, the intention was to inspire people through failure; that even famous persons have gone through hardships.

Was the idea to show celebrities less as larger-than-life personalities?

Because there is a human, vulnerable side to every celebrity. I talk to them instead of questioning them.

But there are many talk shows on air already!

But they don’t have Anupam Kher as host. My show is more personal, doesn’t attack anyone, and doesn’t promote movies or events.

Will there be other stars too, apart from Bollywood?

Next season, definitely. I wish to interview NaMo, Sachin Tendulkar, Mary Kom and Narayana Murthy among others.

There are reports that Saaransh is being remade?

Honestly, they can’t make Saaransh without me, unless they change the plot altogether.

Are you okay with remakes?

I don’t mind them, but to me it’s a bankruptcy of ideas.

Is there any actor you have always wanted to work with?

My dream came true when I worked with De Niro. I'd like to act with others in Hollywood too.

Your personal favourite movie role so far.

My most challenging role was in Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara, for which I worked very hard and enjoyed myself thoroughly.

Is there any chance that you will hop, skip and jump to politics to join your wife?

I don’t see it happening, not now at least.

If not showbiz, what other profession would you have chosen?

I'd have been an unrecognised showbiz person. No other field ever appealed to me as much.
