Was Demonetisation The Reason For DU Student's Hoax Call At PM Modi's Rally?

The student was angry with BJP-led government for its demonetisation move and wanted the party to lose in Uttar Pradesh assembly polls...

The Delhi University student who was arrested for allegedly making a hoax call about the possibility of a bomb blast during PM Narendra Modi's rally at Mau in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, did so because he was reportedly angry at Union government.

Hindustan Times reported that the 21-year-old was miffed at the present BJP- led government and wanted it to lose the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. He called up the Delhi Police's control room, and said there would be a bomb blast in the Mau rally addressed by Modi, said a senior police officer.

"Deepak was angry with the functioning of the Narendra Modi government. The demonetisation (exercise) had left him even more agitated,” a senior police officer told the newspaper.

The Modi government had banned high currency banknotes on November 8, leading to an unprecedented cash crisis across the country.

Police tracked down Deepak, a native of Devgaon area in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh, to Azadpur in Delhi, and seized two SIM cards and a mobile phone from him. He was doing BA from School of Open Learning.
