Sipping a glass of lassi, Vinod Rai looks relaxed even as workers put finishing touches to the third-floor apartment he has moved to after retirement in Delhi’s upscale Vasant Vihar neighbourhood. The uncluttered decor of the drawing room echoes the clarity in approach that has been the hallmark of the former Comptroller and Auditor General of India. This trait was evident when he resisted pressure from the political class to retract the CAG reports on mega losses due to the sale of spectrum, allocation of coal mines and many PPP projects.
