- The endemic western UP region, epicentre of all polio outbreaks, remained free of P1 for a record one-and-a-half years till mid-2008
- Bihar recorded only 3 new cases of the P1 virus in 2008
- New injectible polio vaccine (IPV) to be used to eradicate the disease
