Why I Love To Hate <i>Outlook</i>

Though not a regular reader of Outlook, I feel it is the type of magazine we need today. It covers a wide range of subjects. It maintains a high standard of thought-provoking reporting and articles. It also establishes that it is not committed to any ideology and is sensitive to current issues. The April 6 issue called ‘Terror in Uniform’ is an example: it’s a forceful voice against injustice, a timely knock at our national conscience. At the same time, sensationalisation of news and character assassination should be avoided. The latest issue on Smriti Irani is like a chargesheet drafted by her adversaries. This should be avoided. In the issue on Smriti, I felt that all the people who were quoted had the same opinion. Maybe people who have had a good experience with her should have been quoted. I must congratulate Saba Naqvi for her stories in previous issues, and I really appreciate that the magazine can be read by all with relish. I realise that the media works on a tightrope, but it should not appear to be imposing its views.
