When Outlook began its journey, I had recently moved to Goa. Those were the days when the postman’s visit was eagerly awaited in our tiny village each day. I subscribed to the magazine because it was big on colour, photographs and stories with a human touch. Even when doing a political story, it was easy to read. In those days, I did not want a TV. In any case, cable TV came almost a decade later. So the magazine was my news channel. I’d read it from cover to cover. I was always delighted to read stories on fashion, and sometimes even contributed. The only time I did not do the ‘all pages’ read was when the magazine had what they called Specials. Till today I am not a fan of the Education Specials and others. Not because they are unimportant, but these specials seemed to be a stand-by when news was scarce. But that is just a minuscule grouse against a magazine which has otherwise informed me about everything happening in the metros, new restaurants, music, books, films. I’d make notes of this information and indulge in them when I went to Bombay. Outlook continues to give me reading pleasure, intellectual stimulation and unbiased reportage.
