Twenty years ago, as the trickle of information into your home was being churned into a gush with the increasing reach of satellite TV and a novel medium that brought bits of text to your computer if you had a box that allowed you to dial up to a central server through your phone line, Outlook launched an experiment that was truly audacious. As TV newscasters and internet sites were beginning to serve up news hot off the fire, making even the daily newspaper feel a little stale, Outlook wanted us to believe that we’d savour it even more intensely if we waited for a week for it to cool off.
