One of the Dalai Lama’s ardent followers, Hollywood actor Richard Gere, is upset with the state of the narrow road leading up to the Dalai Lama’s palace at Mcleodganj. So he’s offered to pay for the repairs, which has come as some embarrassment for the state. The road even figured in an assembly discussion with legislator V.S. Mankotia wanting to know what the status was. CM Virbhadra Singh sheepishly informed the house that Gere had promised to provide the money, provided it is spent properly. But he did add that the PWD has prepared a masterplan to upgrade the roads in the town. In previous years, even the government-in-exile had offered to repair some of the town roads, but turf wars in the pwd meant it came to naught.
