Located at Sattarghat under Kesaria block of East Champaran, the Rs 263.48 crore bridge over the Gandak River was inaugurated by the Bihar CM through video conferencing on June 16, 2020.

Portion of a high-level RCC bridge on Gandak River in Bihar, inaugrated by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar last month, collapsed on Wednesday.

Located at Sattarghat under Kesaria block of East Champaran, the Rs 263.48 crore bridge was inaugurated by the Bihar CM through video conferencing on June 16, 2020.

The bridge collapsed after water flow increased in the river due to heavy rainfall.

Commenting on the incident, Bihar Road Minister Nand Kishore Yadav said there has been no damage to the main Sattarghat Bridge. "The approach slab that has collapsed is 2 km away from main Sattarghat Bridge; no damages have been caused to any bridge. Just the approach slab of a minor bridge has collapsed," he said.

The bridge was one of two major contruction projects undertaken by the state's Road Contruction Department (RCD). The other projet was a newly-built bypass road, costing Rs 146.31 crore, in Lakhisarai town.
