Maharashtra-Based Teacher Who Won Global Teacher Award Now On World Bank Panel

Ranjitsinh Disale, who hails from from Paritewadi in Maharashtra, will join 11 others on the World Bank's recently created Global Coach Programmes' International Technical Advisory Board.

Ranjitsinh Disale, who made headlines last year after winning the prestigious Global Teacher award, has been appointed to the World Bank's international advisory board, which aims to improve teaching quality.

Disale, who hails from from Paritewadi in Maharashtra's Solapur district, will join 11 others on the World Bank's recently created Global Coach Programmes' International Technical Advisory Board.

"The World Bank has established a teacher training program, and it is overseen by a committee. This committee has appointed me as an adviser," Disale told PTI on Thursday.

A spokesman for the World Bank verified the news.

Work on the board is done for free, and the panel will meet for two hours every six months, with a total time commitment of no more than ten hours every six months for the project, which will finish in December 2024, according to a World Bank statement.

The Global Coach Program aims to accelerate learning by assisting countries in improving in-service teacher professional development (TPD) programs and systems, according to the organisation. The International Technical Advisory Board is made up of 12 professionals from the fields of research, policymaking, and education.

Disale was declared the recipient of the USD 1 million annual Global Teacher Prize 2020 in December of last year in appreciation of his efforts to boost girls' education and spark a quick response (QR) coded textbook revolution in the country.
