All For The Proletarian

Last week, West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharya got to play the good samaritan. Sanjay Ghosh, an std booth employee earning Rs 1,200 a month, was in a quandary. His wife Swapna had been admitted to a Bhawanipur nursing home where she gave birth to twins on January 22. The nursing home authorities allowed the mother to take only one of the babies because of non-payment of dues. The harrowing stalemate continued for 42 days. Finally, help came from Howrah-based engineer Chandicharan Ghosh who offered to put upRs 50,000 for the couple. And then Bhattacharya stepped in: "I told Mr Ghosh, let us split this." Eventually, the bill was shared. The couple is home at last, happy with their twins.
