On March 1, 2003, Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, one of the prime planners of the 9/11 attacks on the US, wasarrested in Rawalpindi. The next day, he was handed over to US authorities, who had been pursuing him at leastsince his 1995 involvement in the abortive 'Operation Bojinka' conspiracy to simultaneously blow up 12American civilian airliners over the Pacific, in which he collaborated with his relative, Ramzi Yousef, who iscurrently serving a life sentence in America for the 1993 attack on the World Trade Centre.
