The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had laid down that only 1,000 taxis will be allowed to ply between Manali and Rohtang and each taxi would be required to pay an environment tax per trip (Rs 2,500 for diesel vehicles and Rs 1,000 for petrol vehicles). But now NGT has agreed to withdraw the environment tax but not the ceiling on the number of vehicles (600 petrol vehicles and 400 diesel vehicles). Visiting Rohtang Pass from Manali is one of the most popular attractions of Himachal Pradesh. But according to the NGT, vehicular pollution is harming the fragile ecosystem
