The museum has beaten the Buckingham Palace in London, Eiffel Tower in Paris and Acropolis in Athens to the first spot. “It is a matter of pride to receive this recognition even during the ongoing situation that the world is facing” said Patrick Greene the director of the museum.
The place was inaugurated as a digital museum in 2016. During this pandemic, and the various lockdowns, it has managed to make adjustments and stay relevant through a number of workshops, virtual tours and webinars. They welcomed more than 20,000 visitors online in the year 2020.
The museum records the impacts the Irish incomers have had on the world, the difficulties they have faced and how they have shaped the cultures of their new homelands. It also helps visitors are interested in tracing their Irish roots.
