Sitting in a plane and cherishing a meal in the sky may not be possible for most of us right now. But a leading airline food company has a solution for it.
Tamam Kitchen, which serves Israel’s El Al Airlines, Turkish Airlines and other international carriers flying out of Tel Aviv, is offering its in-flight meals to the general public. The option is viable through a low-cost delivery during the pandemic. The simple meals are pocket-friendly, conveniently priced around $3 a tray, and require only heating before consumption.
With around 100 orders in a day, the kitchen serves people from all walks of life, including work from home employees, an elder care facility and even members of a virtual video conference. A large portion of their new customers include senior citizens, who have been at home for months and are looking for economical and easy meals.
People have an option to choose from various options, such as fish cutlets in tomato sauce and couscous, sweet potato ravioli with green beans and black lentils, beef cutlets in mushroom sauce with rice, topped with black beans, and chicken schnitzel bathed in a curry sauce.
To give customers an authentic feel of in-flight meals, the trays come in the original packaging, with the El Al logo imprinted on the peel-away plastic cover. However, the tiny bottles of wine are not included.
The service was started by the kitchen in order to remain in business, after flights were grounded and the travel industry took a hit due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
