Checking and verification of train tickets got the digital touch at Mumbai&rsquos Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The Central Railways zone just launched an app, CheckIn Master, for Train Ticket Examiners (TTEs) to help in contactless verification of Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) tickets.
This no-contact process is aimed at controlling the spread of COVID-19 and taking safety measures among the railway staff.
The app would also serve a few other purposes, such as maintaining a staff roster and attendance. The TTEs and other staff members would also be equipped with Public Address Systems to interact with any passenger while maintaining physical distance.
This will also enable clear dissemination of instructions given by the TTE to the staff, and even passengers.
The Central Railway zone also aims at installing flap-based gates at entry/exit points equipped with automatic QR-code based ticket verification so that passengers can easily scan thecodes on their phones and get their tickets checked and verified.
