As lockdown guidelines do not permit opening of public places, the Partition Museum in Amritsar has shifted to a digital platform. Joining many others in a growing list, the museum will now offer digital resources as well as a virtual tour to school children.

One of the most successful activities of the museum are the school visits which have been shut down after the pandemic started. And these are unlikely to be resumed. unless guidelines change.

In order to continue with the educational programme, the museum has collaborated with the District Education Department to prepare audio-video files of the information regarding its galleries, major Partition events and its history.

Mallika Ahluwalia, CEO of the museum, told The Tribune, that the museum did not wish to suspend the programme as it was quite interactive and generated a lot of interest among young children towards history. Hence, they ideated to share audio and video files regarding important historical events related to Partition in collaboration with the District Education Department. Since academic education has already shifted to digital platforms, this was the only alternative to ensure the programme's continuity.

The museum&rsquos management has shared the virtual tour files of the museum and its galleries with the teachers in order to sensitise students towards Partition and its impact on generations.

Before the lockdown, the museum encouraged students to visit and understand one of the largest forced migrations in the world via interactive multimedia, and to connect with the stories of people who lived through it.
