In a unique collaboration, People For Animals (PFA), India's oldest and largest Animal Welfare Organization, has joined hands with the master ceramicist P R Daroz for an exhibit on the evening of August 4, 2023. The '100 Bowls' collection represents a new collectable art form, blurring the boundaries between art and everyday life. The affordability of the collection ensures that it can be enjoyed by art enthusiasts from all walks of life, effortlessly integrating into stylish homes and lifestyles.

This exhibition will have the ceramics master showcase a special collection of 100 large, magnificent bowls exclusively for People For Animals. These remarkable pieces, priced affordably at Rs. 35,000 each, are a testament to Daroz's artistic prowess and commitment to the cause.

Who is P R Daroz

P R Daroz, a name synonymous with excellence in ceramics, has been bestowed with numerous accolades, including the prestigious National Academy Award for ceramics by Lalit Kala Akademi and the 2nd World Ceramics Triennale in Yugoslavia. His artistic journey has taken him across the globe, participating in international artists' workshops and representing India in renowned events such as the 4th World Ceramic Biennale in Korea, the 2nd Beijing Art Triennial in China, and the 3rd World Ceramic Triennial in Zagreb. He has also been a valued member of the International Academy of Ceramics.

The potter's wheel remains Daroz's, first love. "Wheel-thrown forms of pottery remain my first love as around five decades back, I began my clay journey with a potter's wheel." It is with immense pleasure that he embraces the opportunity to revisit the potter's wheel through the '100 Bowls' Show organized by People For Animals (PFA), a noble endeavour dedicated to Animal Welfare," he said.

The Bowls Concept

Delving into the conceptual depth of his artwork, Daroz explains the metaphoric significance of the juxtaposition of two circular walls. With its rhythmic contours, textured surfaces, and fluidity, the outer wall symbolizes our external self, constantly interacting with the world around us. Meanwhile, the inner circle stands composed, embracing all external movements and representing our inner self. This interplay between the two circles resonates with the traditional Indian worldview, which is simultaneous and integral. For Daroz, vessels transcend their utilitarian function and transform into objects of pure visual delight, viewed through the lens of a sculptor in an expressionist manner.

For A Good Cause

This unique collaboration between PFA and Daroz exemplifies PFA's commitment to promoting diverse art forms. Over the years, PFA has pioneered numerous art exhibitions, showcasing forgotten art forms and bringing them back into the public eye. From British lithographs to Raja Ravi Varma oleographs, from antique paintings to hand-blown glasses, PFA has continuously presented a rich tapestry of artistic expressions.

Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Chairperson of PFA, emphasizes the democratization of art, stating it should not be confined to canvases or limited to a select few. PFA introduces a delightful and accessible way to appreciate art, where artistic creations extend beyond museum walls and become integral to daily life. Previous PFA offerings, including art-woven carpets and ceramic platters, have witnessed tremendous success and demand. With the support of India's artists and generous sponsors, PFA continues to champion the cause of animal welfare through its artistic endeavours.
