Whenever we visit a new place, it is difficult to restrain the shopper in us. Whether it is about shopping for souvenirs for your family and friends or for trinkets and curios to take back and decorate your house, shopping in a new city can be fun if you know where to go and what to pick. Here is a list of things you can pick up if you ever find yourself in the misty town of Nainital.

Candles

Multi-hued and many-shaped candles are the star of this small, cold town of Uttarakhand. In every second shop on the town’s mall road, there is a candle and souvenir shop that you can go in and browse for hours. Buy some really unique and colourful candles in eccentric shapes and forms for friends and family at reasonable prices.

Pottery and intricately designed ceramics are great home decor items. Bowls, vases, boxes and plates of all sizes are hung around on the outside of shops to lure customers. But honestly, there isn’t much need for such tactics as the products themselves would win you over and convince you to buy everything there.

Paintings and handicrafts are things specific to Uttarakhand as you will get some of the rarest and most unique pieces of handicrafts in hole-in-the-wall shops.

Pine cone arts and crafts pieces also make for very interesting and region-specific gifts for friends and family. Fashioned with fallen pine cones that are found in abundance at various spots, there are multiple shops selling these decorative pieces around Nainital and Bhimtal at very affordable prices.

Homemade Chutney, Marmalade & Pickles

Although these are common to all cities, due to the excellent quality fruits found in Nainital, like cherries and strawberries, buying jars of marmalades for back home is a great idea. Apple chutneys and lemon pickles are some of the best you will find here.
