Eilat is a small resort town in south Israel but a firm favourite among citizens of the country. The turquoise waters of the Red Sea by its side, Eilat has something for every traveller. Spectacular coral reefs, water sports, pristine beaches, a typical desert landscape and bustling nightlife make this resort town a much-visited destination.

Getting to Israel from India is no trouble as there are plenty of flights, most with just one halt. Reach Tel Aviv and then take an hour-long flight to Eilat on a local carrier.

Here are five reasons why Eilat should be on your bucket list

Dolphin lovin

The Dolphin Reef is a major attraction. The horseshoe-shaped sea-pen holding bottlenose dolphins in the Gulf of Eilat offer visitors a chance to swim with the mammals. One can enjoy spending time with the dolphins in their natural habitat.

Marine life watching

The Coral World Underwater Observatory is the biggest public aquarium in the Middle East. It has a spectacular display of over 800 species of fish, coral, turtles, stingrays, molluscs and now, sharks. The observatory takes you 12m below the surface of the Red Sea to watch the wonders of marine life.

Diving paradise

Eilat is one of the most-beautiful places in the world for divers. The warm weather throughout the year makes it an ideal location to gaze at the marvels of the underwater world. The varied species of fish and coral attracts seasoned and amateur divers. While there are many courses one can take to get certified, the adventurous can opt for the 24m Satil Wreck diving at the Village beach.

Hiking in Timna

The Timna Valley in the north of the town is where the worlds first copper mine is located. The area has been mined since the 5th millennium BCE and the sprawling landscape is striking with its majestic cliff tops. Once can hike to discover ancient treasures and take stunning images.

Wine discovery

Take a day trip from Eilat through the Negev Desert, between the city of Beer Sheva and the hilltop town of Mitzpe Ramon. The area has wineries and offers wine tasting for tourists. Dont forget to take the wine tour to experience local wines, cheese and olive-oil making.
