Media and entertainment giant Viacom18 is now in the picture of Indian Premier League (IPL). As per latest updates, Viacom18 has won the women's IPL media rights for the next five years. The announcement has been made by Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary, BCCI via Twitter. In the post, Shah mentioned that Viacom18 has won these rights for a whopping Rs 951 crore.

This means that while the total amount stands as mentioned, per year basis, it would amount to Rs 7.09 crore. With this announcement, Viacom18 will now exclusively have women's IPL media rights from 2023 to 2027. 

The official tweet from Jay Shah congratulating Viacom18 reads, "Congratulations @viacom18 for winning the Women’s @IPL media rights. Thank you for your faith in @BCCI and @BCCIWomen. Viacom has committed INR 951 crores which means per match value of INR 7.09 crores for next 5 years (2023-27). This is massive for Women’s Cricket 🙏"

Adding to his comments, Jay Shah also wrote, "After pay equity, today's bidding for media rights for Women's IPL marks another historic mandate. It's a big and decisive step for empowerment of women's cricket in India, which will ensure participation of women from all ages. A new dawn indeed! #WIPL @ICC @BCCIWomen"

Women's IPL has been the newest format of the decade old game by the organisers. Even before it was officially announced to extend IPL to women's cricket as well, speculations were rife in the market as many stakeholders also demanded the same for a parity with men's cricket.
