The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) on Wednesday took cognizance of the congestion at the country’s leading airports again. Just days after the Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stepped in to sort out the Delhi Airport chaos, the MoCA again took a note of all the complaints and addressed the Mumbai and Bengaluru airport operators.

According to official updates from MoCA, the authorities have asked Mumbai and Bengaluru airports to put in place additional capacity and redesign their systems. Since the holiday season is just around the corner and the air traffic is expected to pick up, the MoCA has asked these major airports of the country to take these and few more steps at the earliest.

Both Mumbai and Bengaluru airport authorities were primarily addressed by Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal. While the secretary took stock of the decongestion measures at these airports, he, on behalf of MoCA also asked airport operators to undertake processes wherever required in order to deal with peak passenger movement.

In addition to this, all the airport operators have also been asked to give daily reports on the efforts and steps being taken, put sign boards to indicate real-time basis waiting time at security lanes and entry gates, and also share relevant information via their social media handles. Further, to aid decongestion, these operators have also been advised to keep a check if all airlines are manning their check-in counters and have additional X-ray machines.

The MoCA meeting to address congestion at airports was also attended by Director Generals of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and other senior officials. While it all started with Delhi Airport managing their peak-hour flight traffic, slowly, when people started complaining of chaos at other airports, decongestion measures were extended to others as well.
