Hampi Utsav 2022: Dates, Venue And More

Also known as the Vijaya Utsav, this vibrant celebration of Hampi’s ancient glory has been ongoing since the Vijayanagara empire’s rule. Although the festivities have evolved with the times, the essence of rejoicing in the traditional Kannadiga culture remains. 

 

The beautiful sand-coloured carved ruins that have earned UNESCO’s recognition as a World Heritage Site get lit with bright colours every year to mark the three-day extravaganza. To add to its visual splendour, world-renowned musicians and dancers grace the stage in addition to other exciting activities as well. 

 

The prominent locations that get coloured with celebrations are the Gayatri Peetha, Virupaksheshwara Temple and Eduru Basavanna Temple. Across each of these ancient sites, attendees can explore the region's rich heritage through art exhibitions, puppet shows, music and dance performances, and plays. The event also holds several competitions, such as photography and rangoli-making competitions. It is undoubtedly the best time to explore Hampi’s veritable beauty. For photography enthusiasts, it may just be the best time of the year to capture its splendid architecture. 

 

The state government has recently announced that the festival will now be held from January 27 to 29. However, the dates are yet to be confirmed and are tentative.
