Imagine going on a long cruise trip and meeting your soul mate. Nope, that's not the plot of the latest rom-com on Netflix.

After taking a severe hit during the many lockdowns, countries across the world have been scrambling to come up with offbeat plans to boost domestic tourism. Thailand has taken it to the next level. The tourism board there is arranging special matchmaking trips for singles around the country.

In collaboration with popular dating app Tinder, the Thailand government has launched the campaign “Single Journey” to attract singles on countrywide trips that are being organised every twenty days.

A total of nine itineraries are planned to cover the major tourism routes in the country — Pattaya, Chumphon-Surat Thani, Lop Buri-Saraburi, Ayutthaya, Phuket, Udon Thani-Loie, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, and Chang Mai.

The tourism board organised three pilot trips, the first of which was launched on December 20. It comprised a cruise along Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River. Around 100 singletons were taken around nine holy temples by the river while they searched for their potential matches. Sounds like an exciting TV matchmaking show? There's more. The second trip on January 9 will take 50 single tourists to a beach party and a concert at Koh Khai, off the coast of Phuket, followed by a one-day trip across Thailand’s Monkey City scheduled as a part of the third tour on January 23.

Likely to win hearts and receive a positive response, the Tinder-government partnership is already planning its future travel packages to the hills of Mae Hing Son and Pattaya.

Would Bridget Jones approve? Perhaps.
